Training course overview

This hands-on 3-day training course will give you the confidence and skills to offer responsive and trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic abuse as part of the Integrated Support Service.  

This training will equip participants with a thorough understanding of the Integrated Support Service, and a deeper knowledge of domestic abuse, trauma and recovery within the context of the domestic violence perpetrator programme.

This training is interactive and uses a range of media, practical exercises, and discussions to give participants a “toolkit” of skills and knowledge based on evidence-based practice and recent theory. This is also an excellent 'refresher' for experienced Integrated Support Service practitioners.

Participants will also be given access to part 1 of the online training course: 

'Facilitating groupwork for perpetrators of domestic abuse', which focuses on the essential knowledge around perpetrator work. This is included in the price for the ISS Worker training and it's optional, but we recommend taking advantage of the additional learning it can offer.

By the end of the training you will:

-Have freshened up on techniques for proactive contact with survivors and getting the best out of Case Management.

-Have a better understanding of the Respect accreditation Standards.

-Be able to talk to survivors about the perpetrator programme, keeping a balance between empowering them and managing their expectations.

-Have practised your advocacy skills with other agencies, learning how to respectfully challenge victim-blaming.

-Have gained fresh ways of helping survivors to “join the dots” and understand the dynamics of domestic abuse

-Be able to use a range of risk assessment models, responding to changes in risk and safety planning accordingly.

-Have learnt about recovery models and theory to support survivors at different stages of their recovery.

-Have learnt the physiological manifestations of trauma, and learned to use a range of grounding and relaxation techniques.

Suitable for:

• Integrated Support Service Workers with little/no experience supporting survivors and experienced ones.
• Practice Managers of DVPP's or other interventions with perpetrators with an integrated support service for survivors.

An in-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and abuse is essential. 

Dates:  January 11th ,12th and 13th (09:30-16:00 each day).

Participants must attend every full day to complete training.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation within one week of the training date: Full charge
Cancellation within two weeks of the training date: 50% charge
Cancellation within one month of the training date: 25% charge
